Since I didn’t see anyone in the notes saying it, that second panel is a drawing of the remains of Tsewang Paljor, infamously known as Green Boots, who was one of the eight people killed in the 1996 disaster on Chomolungma (commonly known as Mount Everest), having been caught in the lethal blizzard while descending from the summit. He was 28. His body was used as a morbid trail marker along the northern route until 2014, when a Chinese team moved him off the trail and covered his remains, much to the relief of his family.
Just… figured that was important. It’s fucked up that he’s only remembered as Green Boots; his corpse has been treated like a tourist attraction and glorified prop for decades, even after he was properly laid to rest. The least we owe him is to learn his goddamn name.
But yeah, the first rule of climbing up a mountain is that you need to get back down again after. People who turn back on time make it home alive.
